NPTEL Videos are great videos for learning a subject. They have been made by the best teachers in India, and are very detailed. However, in our opinion, they are only partly useful for GATE exam preparation. So you should ideally use some GATE focused study material or Video Lectures to prepare for GATE.

How long does it take to prepare for gate?
Preparing for Gate via taking a whole course is completely waste of time. Because most of the courses contain 40-42 lectures of one hour each. So it will certainly require more than 50-55 hours of study to study the one course. which further means that you need 7 days at least to complete one course, that is only if you complete 7 lectures a day.
