Are EMTs allowed to defend themselves?

Simple answer is yes all emergency service personnel can use self defence. We do so on a regular basis. Unfortunately there are many attacks on emergency services staff. Under the law we are allowed to use reasonable force to defend ourselves.

Here are some guidelines for preserving evidence at a crime scene.

  1. Be observant and look for hazards. Before approaching a patient, take a moment to look at the scene and observe details such as room layout.
  2. Touch only what is required for patient care.
