Ser Bronn of the Blackwater miraculously outlived most other soldiers on the show and was made Lord of the Reach. Bronn got his way and was named Lord of Highgarden and the Reach, and Master of Coin to boot. Now he’ll serve under Tyrion Lannister in King’s Landing.

Why did Bronn become lord of Highgarden?
Bronn is given the title due to his abilities. He is a great fighter, and can manipulate within the political game. He is very resourceful and a survivor. There is nobody to challenge him, and he has the loyalty of Tyrion, which by being the Hand, also loyalty of King Bran.

Why is Bronn never mentioned in the later books?
GRRM does not have any issue just retiring a character when he is done with him in the story. Bronn makes no active role in anyone’s POV in the later books. He is only mentioned in passing in having thwarted Cercei’s off the cuff idea to have him assassinated by Lady Stokeworth’s husband just because he named his bastard son Tyrion.

Indeed, the battle was quite close and Bronn could have easily died. At that point in the story though he had nothing to lose. Bronn was just a wandering mercenary rapidly becoming too old to be a mercenary, he had little to lose and everything to gain.
