Why did Gandalf not want the Ring?
Even though he and Sauron are equal, power-wise, Sauron is evil while Gandalf is firmly on the side of good. He would not want to take the chance that the Ring might corrupt him.
Why did Gandalf refuse to take the Ring when Frodo offered it to him?
He doesn’t want to get tempted by it because he knows the consequences of taking the ring. It drove many people mad and they became evil because of it. So if a wizard with many powers such as Gandalf would own that ring with its power along with his own, the world would fall to ruin.
Why is Sam immune to the Ring?
The reason Sam is not affected by the Ring in the same way as others, is because of his great love and loyalty towards Frodo. This is not a romantic attachment, but a noble and selfless love, which Frodo cannot always return, but which he admires and respects.
Why did Frodo succumb to the Ring?
Bilbo decided not to kill Gollum when he could, and it was Gollum’s (unwilling) sacrifice that led to the destruction of the Ring. Frodo (nor any mortal) would have ever had the strength of will to overcome evil as powerful as the Ring and destroy it directly, so someone would have to take the fall.
Why does the Ring not affect Frodo?
Frodo had an innocent character. The innocence made him more immune to the ill-effects of the ring. Frodo did not lust for power. Gandalf and others use power, so they can easily be deceived by it.
Why was Bilbo let go of the Ring?
Bilbo was in possession of the Ring for many years but only gave it up near the end of his personal journey, when he would not be in need of it. All Gandalf needed to do was give the suggestion to Bilbo that he should give up the Ring, and he was able to do it because the Ring had already made the decision.
Why can’t Gandalf do magic?
Even if Gandalf had more traditional fantasy powers, he would not be able to constantly cast spells. As shown with Saruman, using magic is very taxing and expends great energy, so it cannot be done freely.
Why is Gandalf called mithrandir?
Mithrandir is his Sindarin (Grey Elven) name. It means Grey/Silver Wanderer. The elves call him Mithrandir amongst themselves and the patricians of Minas Tirith call him that because they also speak Sindarin.
Who actually destroyed the Ring?
The hobbits, followed by Gollum, reached Mount Doom, where Frodo was overcome by the Ring’s power and claimed it for himself. At that moment, Gollum bit off his finger, taking back the Ring, but, gloating, he and the Ring fell into the fires of Mount Doom. The Ring and Sauron’s power were destroyed.
Why does the Ring make you invisible?
Why does the One Ring make you invisible? The Ring itself doesn’t just make its bearers invisible – it brings them halfway into the world of wraiths and spirits. The ring bearers had no power over the ring (like Sauron had) and therefore they could not make themselves visible whilst wearing it.
