Hearing the dialogue in English (or whatever their native language may be) allows for a more immersive anime-watching experience. Some anime dubs change the script quite a bit from the original Japanese version. In some cases, many fans prefer the completely different take on the show presented by the dub.

Is it bad to watch anime in English?

Often the dubbed versions change the name of characters because the translations or the original text sounds awkward. Otherwise there is nothing wrong. I’ve watched several anime series and then watched them in dubbed versions too. So, it’s perfectly fine.

I would recommend subs. Its a japanese cartoon, so its originally japanese and usually the original is better. Some parts of the translation to dub doesn’t match or sound good. Take the last episode of Naruto (not shippuden or boruto) as an example.

If someone wants to hate on all dubbing, the quality does not matter. People are more familiar with subtitles because it is more commonly available, making dubbing a rarity. Sometimes the lines are perceived to be corrupted as the voice actors of the dubbing do not match the Seiyuu (voice actor) of the original.
