Is Tom Bombadil the most powerful being on Middle Earth?

Tom is almost the most powerful being in Middle Earth, but not quite. Sauron, if he recovered the One Ring, would become much, much more than just another Maia (he was always more than that), even though he’d normally be less powerful than Tom, at least one-on-one.

Why did Gandalf need to talk with Tom Bombadil immediately after Sauron was destroyed?

Gandalf was now retired; and in less than 2 years, he would be leaving Middle Earth forever. For 2000 years, he had wandered Middle Earth, and hadn’t had a chance to stay in one place for long; and so now he wanted to have a long talk with Tom, since he’d never get another chance once he left the Havens.

Does Sauron know about Tom Bombadil?

Sauron may literally never have noticed him. Certainly, he had no reason to give Bombadil any thought of concern. Bombadil never acted as an enemy to Morgoth or Sauron through all the first two ages of Middle-earth.

No, Tom Bombadil, the mysterious figure from Tolkien’s stories and two poems, is not Eru Ilúvatar, the creator figure from Tolkien’s Legendarium. Despite the ambiguity of the story, Tolkien has confirmed in one of his letters that there is no embodiment of the creator in his stories.

The voice of Tom Bombadil is provided by Milan Lasica. He appears in the final third of the first episode, helping the four hobbits with Old Man Willow, guiding them to his house and taking them in as his guests for the night, along with his wife Goldberry.
