Is film photography cheaper than digital?

Lower initial costs: Whether you’re shopping for an entry-level 35mm film camera, a medium-format camera (which has a larger sensor), or a large-format camera (which has an extra-large sensor), traditional film devices tend to be cheaper than their digital counterparts—at least upfront.

Is film photography still relevant?

Photography may be overwhelmingly digital nowadays, but the influence of film remains palpable to this day. From photo app filters that emulate the look of film to new digital cameras designed to look like vintage ones, film continues to affect how we perceive the aesthetics of photography in general.

Does film photography look better than digital photography?

Film photography will always look better than digital photography, period. The best digital photos are the ones that simulate the look of film. Fujifilm is making their JPEG images look like their old film images. VSCO is making presets to make clinical and soulless digital photos have life— by adding grain, randomness, and softer colors.

Why do you love film photography?

Film is great because there are so many different types of cameras and stocks of film to choose from. You can easily develop a style of photography by simply choosing a type of film you like, and sticking with it. I’m gonna go through a couple of my favorite cameras and types of film I love to use.

It’s no surprise that digital technology is still, to this day, modeled after film and made to produce photos that look like they were taken with film. Things might be easier and more efficient with digital, but film is still where it’s at.

I’m going to make a bold claim and say that shooting film in natural light is better than shooting digital in natural light. Of course, there are thousands of other scenarios where digital will sweep the floor with film, but when it comes to natural light photography, film is still better.
