Is Erebor still around in LOTR?
In The Lord of the Rings Online, after a minor appearance depicting the Siege of Erebor, Erebor proper was added in 2018 as part of Eryn Lasgalen and the Dale-lands. After the breaking of the siege, it is now ruled by King Thorin III Stonehelm who must deal with some of the enemy’s army still remaining near his lands.

What happened to the Arkenstone?
When the Dragon Smaug sacked Lonely Mountain, the Arkenstone was lost to the Dwarves of Durin’s Folk — it lay among Smaug’s booty in the halls of Erebor. Thus, nearly a thousand years after its discovery, the Arkenstone was buried once more in the depths beneath the Lonely Mountain.
Why did Smaug destroy Erebor?
The name ‘Smaug’ is from the primitive Germanic verb smúgan, to sqeeze through a small hole, which is how he presumably got through Erebor’s main gate. His motives for attacking Erebor were to both to steal this wealth and to use the Lonely Mountain as his lair.
