How is merit calculated in UPSC Prelims?

The merit list is prepared according to the number of vacancies in every category for a particular year. For example, if there are 300 vacancies for OBC category in a year, the mark of the last candidate in the OBC list (of 300) would be the cut-off for that category.

Is prelims marks counted as an attempt in UPSC?

Answer – No, an attempt is counted only if a candidate has appeared in at least one paper in the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination.

How is CSE prelims score calculated?

Correct answers 75 x 2 = 150 marks. Each incorrect answer carries a negative marking of o. 33\%, which means for every wrong answer 0.66 marks will be deducted. Therefore, in the above example if 25 questions were answered incorrectly then the negative marking for 25 incorrect answers would be 25 x 0.66 = 16.5.

Is IAS prelims only qualifying?

The UPSC Prelims exam consists of two papers namely General Studies I paper and General Studies-II (CSAT) paper. You only need to score more than 33\% or 66 marks for the CSAT paper. Altogether, the preliminary exam is qualifying in nature. Thus, the score does not add up to the final merit.

Do prelims count?

The Prelim exams are particularly important – they count 30\% of the SBA or 7.5\% of your total final mark.

Can I change optional after prelims in UPSC?

Answer: Yes, you can choose any optional subject from amongst the UPSC’s list of optional subjects for Civil Services Main Exam.

How many questions attempt in prelims?

How Many Questions to Attempt in UPSC Prelims Paper 1? There will be 100 questions in total so try to aim at solving around 75-85 questions correctly and later on solve 10-15 questions which you know the answer partially. There is no compulsion to answer all the 100 questions.

Are prelims marks added?

The marks scored in UPSC Prelims are not counted in the Final Score of the exam.

Is CSAT and prelims same?

CSAT stands for Civil Services Aptitude Test. It is a part of the UPSC Prelims (Civil Services Exam – Preliminary). However, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) refers to the exam as General Studies (GS) Paper – II.
