How do you calculate load bearing capacity of a slab?

Solution:

  1. Loads on the RCC Slab. Self-weight= concrete unit weight * Volume of concrete. = 24 * 0.1= 2.4 KN/m2
  2. Loads on the Beam. Self-weight= concrete unit weight* beam width*beam height. =24 * 0.28*0.25= 1.68 KN/m.
  3. Compute Applied Moment. Assume partial fixity of columns.
  4. Geometry of the Original Section.

Are slabs load bearing?

Slab is supported on all edges e.g. with the help of beams. 2. Slab can carry any kind of loading like point load , U.D.L (uniformly distributed load) etc.

What is the load bearing capacity of a 150 mm thick RCC slab?

Load capacity of simply supported concrete slabs

Thickness (mm) Self Weight (kg/m2) Total Load
kN/m2
100 240 7.26
125 300 7.85
150 360 8.44

How do you calculate load bearing structure?

Calculate the beam’s section modulus by dividing the maximum bending moment by the allowable fiber stress for wooden beams. The latter is 1,150 pounds per square inch. Multiply the maximum bending moment of 900 foot pounds by 12 to get 10,800 inch-pounds.

What is load bearing capacity?

Loadbearing capacity is the maximum ability of a structural member or material to take loading before failure occurs.

How is slab load calculated?

Slab Load Calculation = 0.150 x 1 x 2400 = 360 kg which is equivalent to 3.53 kN. Now, If we consider the Floor Finishing load to be 1 kN per meter, superimposed live load to be 2 kN per meter, and Wind Load as per Is 875 Near about 2 kN per meter.

What is load-bearing capacity?

What is bearing of slab?

A slab is ground-bearing if it rests directly on the foundation, otherwise the slab is suspended. In high rise buildings and skyscrapers, thinner, pre-cast concrete slabs are slung between the steel frames to form the floors and ceilings on each level.

What is bearing capacity in construction?

Bearing capacity – Bearing capacity of a foundation is the maximum load that can be applied on a foundation, before failure or uncontrolled deformations occur.

What is slab load?

The load of the slab, including self-weight, live load, and imposed dead load, are distributed over the beams on their sides. The slab loads are expressed in weight per unit area, whereas the loads of beams are expressed in units of weight per length of the beam.

How much can a floor bend under load?

Codes also specify how much floors are allowed to bend under load, a measurement called a deflection limit. The IRC says that floors must deflect no more than 1/360 of the floor’s span.

What are the load capacities of simply supported concrete slabs?

Sponsored Links Load capacities of simply supported concrete slabs: Thickness (mm) Self Weight (kg/m2) Imposed Load (kg/m2) Total Load Total Load kg/m2 kN/m2 100 240 500 740 7.26 125 300 500 800 7.85 150 360 500 860 8.44

Why are loads a primary consideration in residential buildings?

Residential Buildings. 3.1 General. Loads are a primary consideration in any building design because they define the nature and magnitude of hazards or external forces that a building must resist to provide reasonable performance (i.e., safety and serviceability) throughout the structure’s useful life.
