Do cats search for their kittens?
They might look for the kittens around the house, or meow for them, expecting them to respond. It may seem callous for a cat to let go of her kittens so easily, but this behavior is completely natural. Cats don’t experience the longing that most human parents would experience when separated from their offspring.

An outdoor cat will pick a spot that is difficult to find and/or get to in order to minimize any danger to her kittens from predators. Coyotes, hawks, eagles, and even domesticated dogs all present a real danger to her kittens, so a safe, secluded spot is key.
Do cats find their way home when they are lost?
Even though cats possess a seemingly miraculous homing instinct, that doesn’t mean that all lost cats will find their way home. Even though exclusively indoor cats live longer and are safer from trauma and infectious disease, they may have a reduced homing ability and may become disorientated and frightened if lost outdoors.
