Can you really get air from a toilet?

If the room is full of water, each toilet will act as a drain. The trap (which I guess “U-bend” in the quote refers to) will not act as some kind of barrier. The water going down the drain will displace the air in the plumbing. Making it impossible to breathe through the toilet.

The vent-air outlet, present so that vacuum doesn’t form on flushing, will make sure that the oxygen in the out-let pipe will be refilled from the atmosphere. So, that’s an endless supply indeed!

Can you get an airlock in toilet?

When a toilet gurgles, it indicates that negative air pressure (suction) is building up in the drain line, creating an airlock of sorts. When this occurs, you’ll hear a gurgling noise, the water in the bowl may bubble, and the toilet may flush itself.

Do all toilets have a siphon hole?

The siphon jet is a molded pocket in the front of the toilet that holds extra water until a flush is initiated. It points directly into the trapway. It is a feature found on many, but not all toilets, so check the features if you’re buying a new toilet for your bathroom.

Why is my toilet breathing?

When enough water has run from the tank, the floating ball inside the tank descends enough to activate the fill valve, allowing water to run from the supply line into the tank. The sound you’re hearing is new water from the house supply system running into the tank to replace the water that has leaked out.

Do loo snorkels actually work?

Unfortunately for the plot, toilet snorkels work by exploiting the siphon design of the u-bend, and in the movie they are used in a flood. If the flood waters are over the top of the u-bend, the siphon seal will break, and there will be no air supply to breathe.

How do I get the air out of my toilet flush?

Turn on both the hot and cold water to about 1/8th of the way on all the faucets. Leave the water running for about two minutes. Start from the lowest faucet in the house to the highest faucet. This allows the water pressure of the system to force all of the air from the pipes and out through the faucets.

Where are the siphons located on a toilet?

The siphon jets are small openings under the rim of the bowl. If these jets become clogged, your toilet will not flush properly. Flush the toilet and watch how the water flows, it should swirl. If it comes straight down, the holes need cleaning.

How does the siphon in a toilet works?

When you flush the toilet, water flows from the tank and into the toilet bowl. Water enters the bowl through the siphon jet and through smaller holes in the bowl’s rim. This rapid influx of water raises the water level inside the siphon tube, pushing it and the waste up the tube and down the drain.

Why is my toilet loud when flushing?

The most common plumbing issue that comes with a toilet being loud when flushing is that water may not be flowing properly into the toilet. Water is not flowing into the refill valve at this point. This makes it harder for the toilet to fill up again and to get enough water to flush waste down.

Why does my toilet sound like its choking?

If your toilet is making a weird gurgling sound, the culprit most likely is your pipes. Gurgling is a sign that something is blocking up your pipes and disrupting the flow of air. This negative air pressure means the air can’t flow correctly, and it backs up in your pipes, which is the source of the sound.
