Unless Marvel has had a massive change of heart, Downey Jr. will be back as Iron Man/Tony Stark for one last time. As Marvel fans will remember, Tony Stark died at the end of Avengers: Endgame.

From what I see after watching the movie, while fighting Thanos, The Avengers didn’t plan to use the gauntlet (to finger-snap it) to attack or even to wipe out Thanos. They only want to secure the gauntlet away from Thanos so that they could return each stone to their original timelines.

His “snap” was simply a visual, dramatic cue meant to show how easily he could accomplish it – as in it can be done “with a snap.” Showing him thinking about wiping out half the universe doesn’t have nearly the effect on screen. Because Tony had all six stones in his arm already anyway.
