Why is the Japanese language so hard to learn?

The Japanese language is considered one of the most difficult to learn by many English speakers. With three separate writing systems, an opposite sentence structure to English, and a complicated hierarchy of politeness, it’s decidedly complex. Is Japanese more difficult than German?

Japanese pronunciation is very poor, so quite easy to learn. Japanese grammar is very simple too. But learning to read and write will not be an easy matter : it will take years, full time studying. On the whole, german language is way less demanding.

Is Japanese more difficult than Chinese?

Learning to read and write Japanese is probably harder than Chinese because most Japanese characters (kanji) have two or more pronunciations, whereas the vast majority of Chinese characters (hanzi) only have one. Chinese grammar is generally considered a lot easier to learn than Japanese.

Should I study German or Japanese?

If you go to Germany, almost 80\% of the people there will speak English. Japan has a much better economy in terms of engineering, by the way. Although it is hard, Japanese is your best bet if you want to use if for business. However, if you just want to learn another language, I’d say go for German.

Is it easier to learn Japanese or German or Japanese?

If you are Dutch, German would be easier by far to learn. How “easy” a language is to learn depends on the affinity of the target language to the language group of your mother tongue. So for someone who only speaks Arabic or Taglog or Hindi, it is unlikely that neither Japanese nor German would be easier.

As German is the same language family as English, an English speaking person would find it easier to learn German. German and English both belong to the Germanic family and, although English has taken in vocabulary from other languages (notably Latin, French, Greek etc.) the structure of English and German is very similar.

Is Korean a hard language to learn?

Korean, like Hungarian later on this list, is a language isolate. This means it’s harder to find common ground in Korean in regards to grammar or vocabulary than other languages. Its pronunciation and grammar can be daunting for new learners.
