Why do cats and snakes look alike?

Cats do have a degree of “sinuous grace”, but they are after all mammalian quadrupeds covered with fur, while snakes are cold-blooded reptiles covered with scales and have no legs. Cats do have vertical pupils in their eyes, a trait which is shared by SOME snakes, but that’s about it.

Why do cats have eyes like snakes?

Previous research has suggested that the thin-slitted pupils of domesticated house cats and other predatory animals allow for a wider range of muscle movements and for more light to enter the eye. Since cats are nocturnal and are most active at night, this gives them a huge advantage when they’re hunting.

The cat snake, also known as “cat-eyed snake,” belongs to a large group of snakes in the genus Boiga. Cat snakes in other genuses do exist, but Boiga is the largest and most diverse. Their name comes from their pupils, which are vertical, like a cat’s pupils.

Re: can snakes and cats ever coexist No a snake and a cat will never be playmates or truely get along both may learn to tolerate each other, but should never be left alone when either is out. In some cases like mine the cat could be a meal, but most of the time the cat is more of a threat to the snake.
