What is the fading of the Elves?

Posted on August 25, 2022 by Author

What is the fading of the Elves?

Those, of any Elven people, who did not perish through bodily death or depart from Middle-earth across the sea would eventually fade. Fading occurred when their fëar consumed their bodies and the body became merely a memory of the fëa.

Why did the Elves diminish?

They faded because the time of man had come, which meant more than men would dominate the world. It also meant that time flowed more strongly in the mortal sense. In the First Age time passes but things don’t wither or grow old. By the Third Age this only occurred in places where a strong elf ruled.

What happens to elves who died in battle?

When elves die, their spirits travel to the Halls, where they rest for a time as disembodied shades. So yes, if an elf is killed in battle, her death will separate her from any loved ones she has on Middle-earth as her spirit travels to Valinor to be re-embodied.

Why did some elves stay in Middle-earth?

ANSWER: The Elves were compelled to leave Middle-earth by a spiritual summons of the Valar, calling them to their ultimate destinies within Time and Space. The Valar knew there would be strife between the Elder Children (the Elves) and the Younger Children (Men) and Adopted Children (Dwarves) of Iluvatar.
