What happened to the Elves in the 4th Age?

The Elves either went to the undying lands or remained in Middle Earth and were diminished. The Fourth age was the Age of Men.

Why did the Elves start leaving Middle Earth?

ANSWER: The Elves were compelled to leave Middle-earth by a spiritual summons of the Valar, calling them to their ultimate destinies within Time and Space. When the Valar learned that the Elves had awakened in the far eastern reaches of Middle-earth they launched a war against Melkor and took him prisoner.

Why can’t Elves stay in Middle Earth?

The Elves have to leave Middle Earth because they are diminishing and became weary because of the effects of Morgoth’s corruption into the world. They have to leave Middle Earth and go to Valinor which is the Arda not corrupted by Morgoth, and only the light of the Blessed Realm can sustain them.

Why did celeborn stay in Middle Earth?

For Elves, it wasn’t really abandonment. Celeborn remained for the sake of Arwen (as did her brothers). They knew she would not outlive Aragorn by much and Aragorn had already lived to be nearly 90. He lived to 210, which means approximately 120 years after the Third Age ended.

Do the Mirkwood Elves ever go west?

In both the books and movies of The Lord of the Ringsthe elves go to the West. However it says nothing of the Mirkwood Elves heading to go West, nor does it say anything about them having any plans to. Do they leave across the sea at The Grey Havensor do they remain? And if they do stay in Middle-earth, what happened to them?
