What are we morally obligated to?

A moral obligation or a moral duty is a morally required form of conduct. And, they can be general, including the duty not to steal without necessity or the duty to try to save someone’s life when we can do so at little cost to ourselves.

Do humans have an obligation to help others in need?

Yes because… Empathy is the ultimate virtue. Only when acting out of empathy do we understand other people, meaning that the only way we can understand others and our obligation to them is through empathy. When we do empathize with those in need, we understand their pain and need, and so we are obligated to help them.

Why is moral obligation important?

This is an illustration of a general principle that there is a moral obligation to obey laws that are unenforced or under enforced, and this is important partly because there are sometimes good reasons not to enforce the law. It might be impossible to enforce a law effectively without an undue intrusion.

An individual or group’s universe of obligation represents the extent to which they feel responsible for others, and we often feel a greater sense of responsibility for those who belong to the same groups that we do.

It refers to a legal or moral duty that an individual can be forced to perform or penalized for neglecting to perform.

No you are not morally obliged to help others .. You need to help yourself at least to survive and not due to any moral obligation. Unfortunately you cannot help yourself without some help from others at some point of time.

What are our obligations to society?

Examples of duties/obligations are: obeying laws, paying taxes, defending the nation and serving on juries. Rule of Law: Everyone is under the law. To obey the law, you must know the law. Without laws our society would quickly collapse.
