What are deep emotional wounds?

Emotional wounds are wounds from/within/of relationships. It is a natural need of survival that causes emotional wounds to hurt. In the same way our ancestors had a need to avoid disease and a broken body so as to prevent most certain death, our social support is a threat to our survival as well.

Emotional and psychological traumas are the result of extremely stressful events that leave us feeling unsafe and disconnected from everyone around us. They leave us feeling helpless, powerless, and overwhelmed. Many people also experience painful feelings and memories as well as anxiety that won’t go away.

Soul wounds are the past emotional injuries that manifest pain-based identities. We take painful experiences and begin defining ourselves by the themes, seeing ourselves as victims, broken, or shameful.
