Is it better to get a guinea pig or a ferret?
Honestly both are amazing pets, I have had both. Ferrets however are very rambunctious animals and love to play. So if you are looking for something calmer, a Guinea pig is perfect for you as a beginner pet owner. They love playtime as well but they aren’t as energetic as ferrets.
Are ferrets good for beginners?
They are highly intelligent and social pets and, even though they seem just like a small, easy to care for a pocket pet, they are a big responsibility and often require just as much care as a cat or dog, if not more!
Are guinea pigs a good starter pet?
Do guinea pigs make good “starter pets” for kids? Definitely not. Animals can become sick, get injured, and even die when children aren’t able to give them appropriate care. And people who think that smaller animals are easier to take care of and less expensive than dogs or cats are in for a rude awakening.
It all depends on the amount of time you have to invest in your pet. If you have a busy schedule, then getting a guinea pig would be better for all parties involved… but if you want to spend a lot of time playing with your pet, then ferrets are the way to go.
Is it hard to get a guinea pig to like you?
My colleague Elizabeth, who has also adopted two guinea pigs, put it this way: “One thing I found difficult is that you have to convince your pigs to like you.” Guinea pigs put you through an approval process that’s similar to the way you treat people you meet on Tinder. Young children likely won’t have the patience to earn their trust slowly.
How do guinea pigs get along with kids?
Guinea pigs put you through an approval process that’s similar to the way you treat people you meet on Tinder. Young children likely won’t have the patience to earn their trust slowly. Some of them never like to be picked up or held by humans and always prefer “hands off” guardianship, although this largely depends on their personalities.
How long do guinea pigs live as pets?
They love interacting with their human friends, even if it means just watching TV. Guinea pigs also need time outside their living quarters in order to exercise daily. If you take proper care of your pet and provide it with lots and love and attention, it can actually live up to six or seven years.
