Is gravitational force the same for all objects?

Posted on August 23, 2022 by Author

Is gravitational force the same for all objects?

On earth, all objects (whether an elephant or a feather) have the same force of gravity. The elephant weighs more than the feather, yet they each have the same mass.

Does a bowling ball have a gravitational force?

For example, the more momentum a ball has, the more force will be needed to act upon the ball, in order to change the ball’s path by a certain distance. In bowling, the gravitational force on a bowling ball comes from a lane’s tilts, depressions and crowns.

Does a bowling ball and a feather hit the ground at the same time?

If you drop a feather and a bowling ball from the same distance anywhere on Earth, they will fall at different rates. The feather-bowling ball duo doesn’t fall at a slower rate because the feather is lighter than just the bowling ball alone — instead, they both fall at exactly the same rate.

What does gravitational force mean?

Definitions of gravitational force. (physics) the force of attraction between all masses in the universe; especially the attraction of the earth’s mass for bodies near its surface. synonyms: gravitation, gravitational attraction, gravity.

Why does the force of gravity do no work on a bowling ball?

If the floor is sloped, the work done by gravity would be non-zero. But most bowling alleys are pretty flat. Basically, as the ball is rollign down the alley, gravity is not playing any part in the ball’s energy state (relative to the ground). Therefore gravity does no work.

Does the force of gravity depend on mass?

The magnitude of this force depends upon the mass of each object and the distance between the centers of the two objects. Mathematically, we say the force of gravity depends directly upon the masses of the objects and inversely upon the distance between the objects squared.

What has a greater gravitational force?

The greater an object’s mass, the more gravitational force it exerts. So, to begin answering your question, Earth has a greater gravitational pull than the moon simply because the Earth is more massive.

Why does a bowling ball hit the ground before a feather?

So, back to the bowling ball and the feather: The reason the bowling ball reaches the ground first is because air resistance has a bigger impact on the feather as it falls. That air resistance slows the feather down while not having much of an impact at all on the bowling ball.

Why does a feather and bowling ball fall at the same time?

There is more friction between the feather and the air than there is with the bowling ball. This makes it fall to the ground MUCH slower than a bowling ball.
