Students need to be tested as often as a teacher needs to evaluate their learning for more effective instruction. It is usually a minimum of once every ten weeks for all areas. However, for some areas like oral fluency, the teacher will want to assess more often.

I’ll let you in on a little secret: there are hardly ever math teachers who put problems on tests/quizzes that the students are not equipped to answer. Sure, the questions may not be easy. It may not be “put the round peg through the round hole.” Those questions test superficial understanding.
Why do teachers give the same tests year after year?
Some teachers tend to give the same tests year after year, and they do not return tests for fear that their students will pass on exam questions to younger friends or siblings. Forbidding students to take their tests home can make teachers’ lives easier so that they do not have to come up with new questions every year.
What to do if your teacher gives you unfair marks?
Only in the case that your instructor’s unfair marks can be directly traced to racism, sexism, or some other truly harmful motive singling you (or someone else) out should you pursue it beyond the classroom. And in those cases, by all means go to someone with more authority to plead your case.
Should students be allowed to keep their graded exams?
