How accurate is weather forecast in Malaysia?

RaINS complements the weather research and forecasting system which is capable of forecasting extreme weather events seven days in advance. Despite the challenges it faces, MetMalaysia still manages to achieve an accuracy of over 85\% in weather forecasts and warnings issued to the public.

Can we trust weather forecast?

The Short Answer: A seven-day forecast can accurately predict the weather about 80 percent of the time and a five-day forecast can accurately predict the weather approximately 90 percent of the time. Since we can’t collect data from the future, models have to use estimates and assumptions to predict future weather.

Why is weather forecast always wrong?

Rather, it’s REALLY hard to get pinpoint accuracy and always will be. How much do you trust the weather forecast?

Dear weather nerds; if there’s one common refrain I hear, it’s that “forecasters never bloody get it right”. I say it’s time we stand together. When people say, “I’ve been carrying my umbrella around all day, and it’s been blue skies!” we can helpfully suggest that maybe it was THEM that got the forecast wrong.

Why are meteorologists always wrong?

This is because the computer programs (called weather models) that calculate the forecasts don’t have data from the future, so they have to rely on assumptions and estimates to make the predictions. The atmosphere is constantly changing, so these estimates become less reliable the further into the future one projects.
