In terms of pure numbers, we know that the vast majority of those who have gay sex identify as straight — and this is true for both women and men. I’ve written about some of these women and men who, if given a choice on questionnaires, identify as mostly straight rather than exclusively straight (Savin-Williams, 2017).

How these dynamics are expressed, and the conflicts that can result, are often the impetus for entering couples therapy. The gay men that I work with are often from mixed cultures or different nationalities.

If, on the other hand, you consider someone to be gay only if they act on their same-sex attraction then being gay can be considered a choice depending on an individual’s behavior. But the real question is, does this really matter?

Should the law interfere with the right to have a sex life?
All other sexual or gender identity is more to do at a personal level and should not be of any public concern, especially why, when and who we sleep with. Likewise the law should not interfere with their own personal sex life as long adults involved are consenting. Period.
