Do black holes make gamma rays?

The temperature can reach as high as tens of billions of Celsius degrees for low-accreting black holes because of inefficient cooling, and the plasma can generate gamma rays in the megaelectron volt range. Such mellow black holes are dim as individual objects, but they are numerous in the Universe.

What causes gamma rays to be emitted?

They are produced by the hottest and most energetic objects in the universe, such as neutron stars and pulsars, supernova explosions, and regions around black holes. On Earth, gamma waves are generated by nuclear explosions, lightning, and the less dramatic activity of radioactive decay.

Can gamma rays escape from a black hole?

Explanation: Gamma rays are high energy photons. Any photons with a path that intersects the black hole’s event horizon would not be able to escape the black hole’s gravity. They would fall into the black hole and the photons’ energy would increase the mass of the black hole.
