Animals most commonly transmit rabies to humans through bites. It is possible for a human to get rabies from an animal scratch, but it’s very rare. If you think that you have been exposed to rabies, call your doctor immediately. You may need a series of rabies vaccines to prevent the infection from progressing.

You might feel generally tired or weak. You may also feel pain, tingling, or burning at the site of the wound. As the virus spreads through your central nervous system, you’ll develop other, more severe symptoms.

A cat that has rabies would look very sick. It might be in a stupor, lethargic and unable to walk.
