Are the Eldar and Elves the same?

The Elves, who called themselves the Quendi, and who in lore are commonly referred to as the Eldar (adj. Some, known afterwards as the Calaquendi (Elves of the Light), were brought by the Valar from Middle-earth to Valinor across the Sea, where they were taught by the Ainur.

Are the Eldar good or evil?

They are not sentient creatures, & so have no moral conscience, so their actions cannot be described as evil (though that doesn’t stop them from being very unpleasant in terms of what they do). In this sense of who & what is evil & not evil, it is fair to say that only the Dark Eldar are, as a race, truly evil.
