How are there still monkeys if we evolved from them?

How are there still monkeys if we evolved from them?

If evolution is real why are there still monkeys? Firstly, humans did not evolve from monkeys. Instead, monkeys and humans share a common ancestor from which both evolved around 25 million years ago. This evolutionary relationship is supported both by the fossil record and DNA analysis.

How are humans and monkeys similar?

Living Primates Humans are primates–a diverse group that includes some 200 species. Because primates are related, they are genetically similar. Human DNA is, on average, 96\% identical to the DNA of our most distant primate relatives, and nearly 99\% identical to our closest relatives, chimpanzees and bonobos.

What are the pieces of evidence that support the common ancestor of humans and apes?

Evidence from fossils, proteins and genetic studies indicates that humans and chimpanzees had a common ancestor millions of years ago. Most scientists believe that the ‘human’ family tree (known as the sub-group hominin) split from the chimpanzees and other apes about five to seven million years ago.

Why are there still apes today if we evolved from them?

We didn’t evolve from apes; rather, apes and humans evolved from a common ancestor. Thus, the reason that modern apes are still around is that they have been successful at surviving in their environment. And we are still around because we have also been successful at living in our environment.

How much DNA do humans share with monkeys?

Humans and chimps share a surprising 98.8 percent of their DNA.

What are the evidence of evolution?

Evidence for evolution: anatomy, molecular biology, biogeography, fossils, & direct observation.

What is the evidence for a last universal common ancestor among life on Earth?

Around 4 billion years ago there lived a microbe called LUCA — the Last Universal Common Ancestor. There is evidence that it could have lived a somewhat ‘alien’ lifestyle, hidden away deep underground in iron-sulfur rich hydrothermal vents.

Is there any proof that humans are descended from monkeys?

There is no such proof because we are not descended from monkeys. Whoever told you that is deliberately lying or does not understand evolution. As you can see from the attached image, we split off from monkeys 25 million years ago.

Did we originate from monkeys or apes?

We don’t originate from monkeys or apes. Monkeys and apes are primates, as are we, but, while we have a common ancestor, we aren’t monkeys and monkeys aren’t humans. This is a common misunderstanding.

Is there such a thing as a monkey?

In which case, the colloquial word ‘monkey’ (as used to refer to both modern-day Old World and modern-day New World monkeys, but not humans or apes) becomes scientifically meaningless. In which case, the original question is also meaningless, as, scientifically speaking, there is no such thing as ‘a monkey’!

How long have monkeys evolved?

Monkeys walking around on Earth today have been evolving for just as long as we have—since the time when our shared fossil-monkey ancestors graced the planet.
