What happened to the dwarves in the 4th Age?
The dwarves eventually die out. Of course, the Fourth Age isn’t completely cruel to the dwarves, they do get to spend their last few generations living in their ancestral home of Moria again. As for the hobbits, since they are part of the race of men, the Fourth Age is very kind to them.

They were not extinct. There were well-established populations in the Ered Luin, the Iron Hills, and Erebor. There may have been Dwarves living farther East as well, descendants of Dwarves who didn’t come into the tales of the First Age.

There are many accounts of how they were forced into the mountains by giants, for their defensive superiority, but they adapted so well they do not want to leave. They practice transhumance, although they bring the animals into the caves and feed them hay during the winter. They raise crops.
How old are the dwarfs?
This period of old age generally lasts about 10 years, so they die at around 250. 250 years, on average. Dwarves are considered to be children for the first 30 years of their lives. (However, even dwarf children, of both sexes, already have beards.)
