Why do airplanes need so much maintenance?

Commercial airplanes are complex vehicles consisting of hundreds of thousands of individual parts. While there are different types of commercial airplanes, they are all very complex. Why do we need 25 hours aircraft service inspection?

These programs help to minimize downtime, as aircraft are out of service for a shorter period. How often should an airplane be flown?

The 50-hours recommendation is a very good number for aircraft that are flown almost every week and more than 200 hours a year. But we all know that most private aircraft are flown around 100 hours a year, with many of them flown only 50 hours or less.
