Why did Grima betray Saruman?
Grima Wormtongue is not pitiable. He betrayed his own people (Rohan) in hopes of gaining riches and power. He was not trustworthy at all! If someone greater and more evil than Saruman appeared, he would have dropped him in a heartbeat to get a better offer.
