Why thousands of doctors cant get a job?

Medical school classes have expanded to meet the country’s doctor shortage, but residencies haven’t kept pace. That means that every year, thousands of doctors try to match into residency — and face rejection. They’re left unemployed and $100,000s in debt.

Will doctors be needed?

In California, the number already is down to just 50 — and in particular areas, it’s even lower. That means by 2030, the state is going to be in dire need of physicians. The federal government’s Council on Graduate Medical Education recommends 60 to 80 primary care doctors per 100,000 people.

In the US, unemployment of doctors is rare, but very hard to overcome when it happens. I have seen entire departments of doctors in a large hospital get sacked, and be forced to disperse across the nation to find new work.
