Can I use my existing router with Eero?
Eero can work with other routers. While Eero was created to replace existing routers, users can still link their other routers with an Eero. If you decide to use your Eero with other routers, you will need to put your Eero or existing router into a bridge mode or make a double NAT connection.
How do I add an Eero to an existing network?
To add eeros to your existing network:
- Open the eero app.
- Tap the blue plus icon on the top right.
- Tap Add or Replace eero Devices.
- Tap Add eero Device.
- Follow the setup instructions to complete the installation.

Do I need to put my router in bridge mode for Eero?
If you have a modem/router combo device, we recommend putting that device into bridge mode. Putting an eero in bridge mode will turn off its network services but allows the eeros to continue providing WiFi access.
Can I add Eero 6 to existing network?
Yes, both eero 6 and eero Pro 6 are backward compatible with most wifi devices making it easy to expand or upgrade existing networks.
Can I use an Eero 6 router as an extender?
Eero 6 can be used to expand an Eero mesh or to start a new one thanks to dual Ethernet ports that can be used for wired devices or an internet connection.
Does eero need to be hardwired?
If you’re not able to hardwire each eero, don’t worry! eeros are designed to deliver the fastest WiFi connection possible in any setup configuration. Unlike other routers, eero has built-in software that automatically finds the fastest way to transmit WiFi throughout your home.
Does eero improve WiFi?
Using Eero can often increase your Wi-Fi speeds because you can add Eero Wi-Fi extenders called Beacons around your house. This way, your Wi-Fi speeds won’t slow down when you are far from your router. Your Wi-Fi speeds should remain the same or comparable when extended through an Eero Beacon.

You can add as many eeros or eero Beacons to your home as you’d like! When figuring out the optimal number of eeros for your home, take your home’s layout into consideration. This includes length, number of rooms, and any potential interference-inducing obstacles like brick walls, large appliance or metal doors.

eero is designed to replace your current router with a WiFi system that provides greater Internet connection and reliability throughout your home. Most customers no longer need their older routers after installing eero. Some customers prefer to maintain their existing routers alongside their eero networks.
