Adding an aft torpedo room provided anywhere from 1 to 4 additional torpedoes that could be carried in the torpedo tubes. Larger submarines could carry a reload torpedo per stern tube. For most submarines, it wasn’t possible to transfer torpedoes between torpedo rooms while a submarine was at sea.
