Are mechs practical in war?
Unfortunately, they will perform horribly in a war. They make huge targets and it will be hard to find cover. They are not all terrain like humans, biped mechs can easily fall. Humans are inherently unstable so as to be energy efficient when walking.
How practical are mechs?
They could be practical if one could manipulate the limbs like human arms and legs. This would make them very useful for engineering work like building . If built around a human, then the limbs could have some use in combat like rescue or breaching. But on a large scale, tanks are superior in every way.
Will mech suits ever be a thing?
No, not likely. Not in the traditional gundam/mechwarrior fashion anyway. Powered armor is certainly happening but full on humanoid mechs will never be a thing. The thing is that the human form factor is a great generalist design.
Will mechs replace tanks?
Note that Mechs cannot do the job of tanks/planes/ships nor replace them. They are a new form of vehicles designed for a new form of warfare.
Are giant mechs possible?
Steel is strong, but it’s too heavy—its strength proportional to its weight is far too weak to create a giant, heavy robot. Therefore giant robots “can’t be nimble nor be dexterous,” Thangavelautham said, because the materials necessary to make them would in turn “slow these systems down.”
Are Mechs possible in real life?
Prosthesis is ready to change all that. It’s a real-life, powered exoskeleton with a human at the controls — and it’s ready to race. Many exoskeletons are wearable machines that can augment human strength, or help people regain mobility.
Do mechs exist?
Although fictional mechs come in all shapes and sizes, the widely used hulking, humanoid mech design is the most common in gaming, and in life, as we’ve seen with real life attempts to build the kinds of giant mechs that we love in fiction.
What are mechs used for?
Often, they are the primary means of combat, with conflicts sometimes being decided through gladiatorial matches. Other works represent mecha as one component of an integrated military force, supported by and fighting alongside tanks, fighter aircraft, and infantry, functioning as a mechanical cavalry.
What is a mech suit?
It can lift a car or tow a truck, but the ultimate goal is to make mech racing a sport. Prosthesis is ready to change all that. It’s a real-life, powered exoskeleton with a human at the controls — and it’s ready to race.
How are mechs controlled?
Grab commands are aimed and triggered similar to punches. Clubs and other weapons (makeshift or purpose built) are locked into the ‘Mech’s hand by fully closing/compressing the hand controls that the ‘Mech uses (these controls are listed out below).
Why are mechs popular?
Mecha are often featured in computer and console video games. Because of their size and fictional power, mecha are quite popular subjects for games, both tabletop and electronic.
How will we see mechs in combat?
Consider them as flexible tool-wielders rather than machines of mass destruction. Rather than vehicles, which are tools used by people, a Mech is a tool-wielder used by people, but it’s what the Mech is equipped with today that determines what it can do. And of course you will see them in combat.
Should mechs have legs or arms?
The mecha should use legs to maneuver rather than tracks. The mecha should still have a human pilot inside the mech. Soft science is good enough, but the harder the better. The benefits and merits of using mecha are highly dependent on how big these mecha are.
What is the difference between a tank and a mech?
Because of its low slung design and top mounted turret, a tank is able support a gun that is a significant proportion of its own mass. A mech the size of a tank would not be able to use a gun anywhere near the size of the tank’s gun. A tank is always laying prone compared to a mech and still able to move at full speed.
What would you do with this mecha?
Since this mecha is vaguely human-shaped, it might be capable of replacing construction equipment. By construction, I mean demolition, and equipment, I mean lets knock this wall down and block traffic. Pile those cars up in places that obscure enemy line of sight and give friendly troops a place to hide.
