What is the difference between a one way and two way slab?

The basic difference between One Way and Two Way Slab is that the bending moment occurs only in one direction i.e. the shorter direction in One Way Slab while in Two Way Slab bending moment occurs in both directions i.e. shorter and longer.

What is the difference between ribbed slab and solid slab?

Ribbed slabs are slabs cast integrally with a series of closely spaced joists which in turn are supported by a set of beams. The main advantage of ribbed floors is the reduction in weight achieved by removing part of concrete below the neutral axis. Solid slabs of uniform thickness can be one-way or two way.

Is ribbed slab a one way slab?

One-way slab action is assumed in a ribbed floor (slab with joist beams) made of the precast double-tee section, in the ribbed floor with integral beams, and also in hollow-block or hollow-cored slabs. Read more about the floor system of structure.

What is one way ribbed slab?

One-way Ribbed Slab System A one-way joist floor slab consists of a series of small, reinforced concrete T beams that are connected with girders that in turn carried by the building column. T beams are known as joists which are formed by setting steel pan at a constant spacing.

Why alternate bars are bent up in slab?

To resist Hogging (Negative Bending Moment) at supports. To counter the risk of the failure of the slabs. By providing crank the strength of slab increased. …

What is the difference between flat slab and flat plate?

♻️Flat slab is one with either drop panel or column capital(or both at the same time) that helps reduce shear stress on the column slab junction. On the other hand flat plates are slabs systems with the slab connected to the column directly.

What ribbed foundation?

The ribbed foundation solution consists of a thin slab, a pedestal/plinth in the center of the foundation and six to twelve arms that strengthen the slab. The ribbed foundation is a variant to the classic gravity foundation. Important parts of the concrete volume are replaced by backfill.

What is ribbed floor?

The ribbed floor is a type of R.C.C floor. Ribbed flooring is designed for use as a self-supported suspended floor, mostly, this type of floors are used in commercial buildings. If space between ribs is not filled and left as such it is known as ribbed floor. Ribs and topping act monolithically.

What is ribbed slab?

Ribbed slabs are made up of wide band beams running between columns with narrow ribs spanning the orthogonal direction. Normally the ribs and the beams are the same depth. A thin topping slab completes the system. Waffle slabs tend to be deeper than the equivalent ribbed slab.

What is one way slab design?

One-way slab is a type of concrete slab in which loads are transferred in one direction to the supporting beams and columns. Therefore, the bending occurs in only one direction. The procedure of designing a one-way slab is similar to that of a rectangular beam. Slabs are used to provide flat, useful surfaces.

What is a two way concrete slab?

Two-way slabs are slabs that are supported on four sides. In two-way slabs, the load will be carried in both directions, thus main reinforcement is provided in both directions for two-way slabs. The slabs are considered as spanning two-way when the longer to shorter span length is less than a ratio of two.

What is the minimum thickness of slab?

Minimum Thickness of Slab The minimum thickness of the RCC slab is 4″ or 100mm, 3″ for sidewalk, 4″ for patios, 6″ for driveway, and minimum 4″ thick for parking. It will be restricted to 4 times the nominal size of aggregate.
