Rock guitar is often a bit louder and with either a sharper or harsher tonality to it. Rock lyrics (at least those commonly termed ‘edgy’ in my mind), tend to be sung either more with rough gravelly voices, shriller voices, or flat-out yelled.

“Edgy” is quite difficult to define, but in my personal opinion, heavy metal and hard rock (and all of their incarnations) could probably fit the bill for being “edgy”.
