Does a basketball shot count if it bounces off the floor?

Yes, a bounce that goes into the basket would count as a successful goal. Anytime (except on a throw-in) a live ball goes through the basket, it is a goal, and it doesn’t matter who, if anyone, threw the ball.

How many seconds does an NBA team have to take a shot that hits the rim?

Can you dunk a buzzer beater?

Why is it a 24 second shot clock?

“I figured out we were averaging about 60 shots a game per team,” Biasone told Charles Paikert of the New York Times in 1984 about why he settled on 24 seconds for the shot clock. “Twenty-four fits into the 60, so if each team used up 24 seconds for a shot, they would average 60 shots.

NBA goaltending rules prohibit a player from touching “any live ball from within the playing area that is on its downward flight with an opportunity to touch the basket ring. This is considered to be a ‘field goal attempt’ or trying for a goal.” Just after bouncing, that ball would be headed UP, not down.

Will the digital shot clock be basketball’s first prolonged foray into frivolous graphics?

Therein lies the threat of the digital shot clock, which has a chance to become basketball’s first prolonged foray into frivolous superimposed graphics. If fans don’t demand that TNT stop wasting our time and attention with this distracting gimmick, it could expand to other networks.
