Does absolute time and space exist?
According to Newton, absolute time exists independently of any perceiver and progresses at a consistent pace throughout the universe. Absolute space, in its own nature, without regard to anything external, remains always similar and immovable.
Why does absolute space not exist?
Since length is relative, the space cannot be absolute. The distance between two points in space is different for different observers, the distance depends on the velocity as well as the mass of the observer. For an observer travelling at near light speed, the universe will be very small (length contraction).
Why does Kant say that we never learn of space and time through experience?
Where does Kant think we get our ideas of space and time? ALL experience is necessarily structured by space and time. It would be unreasonable to think that space and time doesn’t structure what we know.
Is the mathematical model of spacetime accurate?
Other scientists have pointed out that the mathematical model of spacetime does not correspond to physical reality, and propose that a timeless “state space” provides a more accurate framework. The scientists also investigated the falsifiability of the two notions of time.
Can the bucket or the globe establish the existence of absolute space?
In other words, Mach would question Newton’s starting premise that the cord connecting the two globes in an otherwise empty universe might be under tension, and indeed under a wide range of different quantities of tension. So, for Mach, neither the bucket nor the globes can establish the existence of absolute space.
Can We challenge Newton’s theory of absolute space?
At least, no natural philosopher or physicist offered a serious challenge to Newton’s absolute space, in the sense of offering a rival theory that dispenses with it. But like the action at a distance in Newtonian gravity, absolute space continued to provoke philosophical unease.
Is it possible to falsify absolute time?
Although this concept could be falsified by an experiment in which time (measured by clocks) is not the numerical order of material change, such an experiment is not yet known. “Newton theory on absolute time is not falsifiable, you cannot prove it or disprove it, you have to believe in it,” Sorli said.
