Why does my writing feel flat?
By far the most common reason why a character feels flat on the page is that they don’t want anything. They don’t seem lifelike because there’s nothing beating in their heart. Every character in your novel should want something and this should be either explicitly or implicitly apparent to the reader.

I love writing because when I write, it feels as though I really did just share it in conversation. It allows me to tell people what I want to tell them without it having to be a conversation. It also allows me to have the conversations that aren’t always meant to be out loud. Writing stumps me the same way it inspires me.
