Should you warm up for piano?

Just like an athlete needs to warm up before a serious exertion, a pianist needs to warm up before playing. Not only can it prevent an injury, it can also develop your fluency a great deal. The traditional piano technique doesn’t include scales and arpeggios to annoy you.

  • Raise one leg up in front of the body at the hip and rotate it out to the side in a circle,then lower it.
  • Reverse by raising the leg up to the side of the body at the hip and rotating it to the front.
  • Repeat ten times and switch to the opposite leg.
