I’ve known fellow jazz musicians who caught onto improvisation very quickly (around 6 months). On the other hand, I’ve played in a jazz band for four years and while I can improv, I wouldn’t say it’s a skill I’ve mastered yet. Just put in the practice, don’t be afraid to make mistakes, and most importantly… have fun!
